Public Enemies

I saw Public Enemies last night and it was excellent. Many people are saying this is Michael Mann’s best film since Heat and I have to agree. I do have some complaints about the film though, like a lack of character development and a pretty basic cookie-cutter plot. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale bring their A-games to this one. The supporting cast is also one of the surprises of the film, consisting of some pretty big names. Elliot Goldenthal’s score is fantastic and the film is beautifully shot, utilizing the Thompson Viper HD cameras. I went into Public Enemies expecting Michael Mann’s take on gangster films and that’s exactly what I got, excellent.
